Cet automne, près de 60 % des électeurs canadiens, répartis dans quatre provinces et un territoire, se rendront aux urnes pour les élections municipales.

Bien que les municipalités soient responsables des services qui ont un impact direct sur les habitants - comme les systèmes d'approvisionnement en eau, les bibliothèques, les parcs, les routes et les services de police - les élections municipales suscitent beaucoup moins d'intérêt de la part du public que les élections fédérales et provinciales.

En outre, le travail des représentants municipaux devient plus complexe, en raison de l'augmentation de la charge de travail, des défis liés à la fourniture de services urgents avec des ressources limitées, et des préoccupations liées à la montée du harcèlement, en particulier pour les femmes et les membres des groupes qui méritent l'équité.
