A Celebration of Canadian Placemakers

August 5, 2023

On June 11th, the Healthy Communities Initiative in partnership with 8 80 Cities hosted a Rooftop Social Gathering at 401 Richmond Street which brought together HCI project leads, community-builders, and other placemaking practitioners in beautiful downtown Toronto.  Over the course of the evening, the 75 attendees got to laugh, eat, and enjoy the beautiful setting while sharing their work with like-minded peers. Despite the rain, attendees were determined to stay outside – which only enhanced the  sense of camaraderie, intimacy, and community. With delicious food and flowing conversation, the time flew by!

Check out the photos below to learn more about the evening – and stay tuned for an upcoming series of video interviews from HCI project attendees. Get ready to listen to their stories and learn about the unique projects making an impact in communities across the country!

Placemaking Rooftop Social at 401 Richmond

The Rooftop Garden at 401 Richmond was a perfect backdrop for celebrating the amazing work by HCI projects and other community builders in cultivating healthy, resilient communities.

We were honoured to be joined by a wide range of practitioners, including team members from 8 80 Cities, Park People, Placemaking Canada, the Thorncliffe Park Women’s Committee, and more!

Conversations were rich, new connections were made, and opportunities to learn from and laugh with each other were plentiful! The backdrop wasn’t too shabby, either…

A big thank you to everyone involved – to the support staff, as well as to our partners at 8 80 Cities, the Placemaking Canada Team whose national gathering brought us together, and the projects and organizations who came out to celebrate the amazing work done (and being done) by placemakers like you across Canada!

We look forward to further opportunities to connect, in-person or virtually, as we continue to build Canada’s Placemaking Community!
